    Additional Medical care

    To Submit a Claim for Additional Medical Care Benefits at the recurrence of an injury or disease
    An IIW can claim for additional medical care benefits in a case where his/her injury or disease he/she was acknowledged and awarded as “work-related” by the K-COMWEL (hereinafter referred to as “Old Injury or Disease” for the purpose of this paragraph or its subparagraphs below) has recurred to him/her, or in a case where the Old Injury or Disease has developed into a more serious condition, after, or in spite of, his/her recovery from it through medical care services supported by the K-COMWEL; however, there shall be a WCI-authorized doctor-in-charge’s medical opinion that another recovery from the injury or disease having recurred to him/her (hereinafter referred to as “New Injury or Disease” for the purpose of this paragraph or its subparagraphs below) will require additional medical care services on the condition that the following requirements should be met:

    • There should be significant causal relations between the Old Injury or Disease and the New Injury or Disease;
    • The development of the Old Injury or Disease into a more serious condition should not be attributable to aging as part of a natural process or any other non-work-related causes;
    • It should be medically acknowledged that a second surgery (e.g. removal of internal fixation devices, fixture of an artificial limb on an amputated body, etc.) is required to enhance the possibility of the worker’s recovery from the New Injury or Disease; and
    • It should be medically acknowledged that additional medical care services will enhance the possibility of his/her recovery from the New Injury or Disease.
    • Temporary Disability Benefits during Period of Additional Medical Care
      - Where a person who receives a disability compensation annuity receives additional medical care, if the sum of the daily disability compensation annuity and the daily amount of temporary disability benefits exceeds 70/100 of the average wage, which is applied in calculating the disability compensation annuity, an amount equivalent to the temporary layoff benefits, out of the excess amount, shall not be paid.
    • Additional Medical Care and Disability Benefits
      - Where the beneficiary of a disability compensation annuity is cured after receiving additional medical care and then his or her state of disability has improved or worsened, disability benefits shall be paid according to a disability grade corresponding to such improved or worsened state of disability.
